A Calling to Care
“I wanted to share that I successfully completed my doula training this weekend in Charlotte, NC. The training began 06/05/26 – 06/07/26 and was an incredibly meaningful experience. During my doula training, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of providing emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. I learned that birth is a deeply personal journey that requires compassion, respect, advocacy, and individualized care.”
“One of the most impactful parts of the training was learning about maternal health disparities affecting Black women. This inspired me even more to contribute to positive change in maternal health. Every woman deserves to feel heard, safe, respected, and supported during her birth experience, and I am committed to helping create that environment.”
“As a Black woman, this work is especially meaningful to me. I am passionate about empowering Black women and families by ensuring they feel informed, respected, and supported throughout their pregnancy and birth journey. I look forward to using the knowledge and skills I’ve gained to make a positive difference in my community. Thank you for your support as I continue this journey.”
About the Program
The Black Doula Project at Prisma Health provides doula support services to eligible Black women in our community. Thanks to a generous year-end gift from Samaritan Biologics, the program will expand its training capacity to serve up to 37 participants. This investment is helping remove barriers to certification and expand access to compassionate maternal care, while equipping women with the training, knowledge, and resources needed to support families during some of life’s most important moments.
