Dr. Michael Campanelli, a beloved member of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville Class of 2026, passed away on June 12, 2025 after an eight-month battle with cancer.
As a deeply dedicated medical student, Michael embodied the highest ideals of the medical profession: empathy, humility, and a resolute belief in the dignity of every patient. His legacy will remain a guiding light for the entire SOMG community.
In celebration of his life, the Michael Campanelli, MD Award Endowment was launched by an anonymous donor to provide a financial award to a fourth year SOMG student who embodies his humanistic approach to medicine and his joyful and compassionate spirit. The inaugural award will be presented at the 2026 Senior Awards Banquet.
Additional gifts are needed to complete the total $25,000 endowment goal and to provide the award in perpetuity.
