Prisma Health Upstate Foundation recognizes community philanthropists
GREENVILLE, S.C., Nov 4, 2021 – The Prisma Health Upstate Foundation recently presented their two most prestigious awards, the William King (B.K.) Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy and Be the Difference Awards to three community philanthropists.
B.K. Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy Award
The B.K. Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy Award, established by the Upstate Foundation in 2010 for the late community philanthropist William King (B.K.) Bryan, to honor his memory and kind generosity. The award acknowledges individuals or families whose philanthropic hearts shine in all they do.
- 2020 award recipient Jolley Bruce Christman and Duff Bruce, Board Trustees of The Jolley Foundation, are the 2020 recipients of the B.K. Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy award.
The Jolley Foundation was selected for the 2020 BK Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy award because of their continued generosity and partnership over the years.
In 2020, the Jolley Foundation established a $1.5 million endowed scholarship fund for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, a gift that reflects the foundation’s vision of a just, compassionate, and vibrant community and its effort to build a healthier South Carolina.
The fund provides scholarships to dedicated students in need through the James E. Jolley Scholarship Endowment. The endowment was established in memory of Jolley and Bruce’s uncle and one of the Jolley Foundation’s founding family members, Jimmy Jolley.
- 2021 award recipient
McCain Childress, the founder of Pops for Pups, is the 2021 recipient of the B.K. Bryan Spirit of Philanthropy Award.
McCain began her philanthropic spirit five years ago after her school teacher assigned a school project giving each student $5 to purchase something to sell and then donating the money to a charity of choice. McCain turned her $5 into a $1000 donation to a local dog shelter by selling popsicles. Shortly afterward, McCain met one of the facility dogs at Prisma Health and learned how the facility dogs play an essential role in the health process of patients. Over three years, McCain has raised $100,000 to establish the Pops for Pups Endowment fund that supports the facility dogs at Prisma Health. McCain is a sophomore at Southside Christian School and is the daughter of Kari Beth and Mark Childress.
These B.K. Bryan Award recipients join an impressive list of past award recipients, which include:
2017 Dr. and Mrs. Harlan
2015 Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dempsey
2014 Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walters
2011 The William Bradshaw Family
2010 Dr. and Mrs. William DeLaoche
